Hot Dogs: Loved and Hated
We know they're not a health food but we can't resist. Love them or hate them? There's a poll at the end of the piece.
I never plan to visit a commercial sausage factory. Or wherever they make hot dogs. I don’t need to see all the bits and pieces. I don’t want to fall out of love. I know there are fillers and colouring agents and fat and sinew. Don’t care.
I like reading about the history of the wiener in a bun. Every time I look up the story of hotdogs it seems there’s a different twist in the telling. I can’t even tell if it’s one word or two.
When I get a craving for a hot dog, the call must be answered.
Just the other day, the urge struck. In this incarnation, I’ve buttered the buns to get a tasty golden crispness to the surface. I’ve prepped some cherry tomatoes and cucumber for a fresh zest and I’ve chosen some guilty-pleasure processed cheese (staying with the theme of fun before function).
For a little added punch, I dressed them with French’s mustard and one of my favourite salsas, Salsa Huichol Black. A couple more minutes for all the flavours to mingle and then it’s time to eat with an ice-cold lager at hand.
They were delicious! Time for you to chime in with the poll below.
